Hold Fast · Last updated: July 23, 2026

Hold Fast ("the app," "we," "us") is an intermittent fasting tracker. We built it to be private by design. This policy explains what data the app handles and how.

Our approach

Your fasting data belongs to you. The app does not run its own servers to collect or sell your information. Data is stored on your device and, if you enable it, synced across your own devices using your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to your iCloud-synced content.

Data we handle

Fasting activity. Your fasting sessions, goals, meal events, notes, and history are stored locally and synced through your private iCloud (Apple CloudKit) container. This stays within your Apple account.

Location. If you grant permission, the app uses your location for two purposes: to display your city and region on your profile, and to calculate local sunrise and sunset times for the Sun Up to Sun Down fasting plan. Both calculations happen entirely on your device. Location is accurate to the nearest three kilometers. Your city, region, and approximate coordinates are saved to your private iCloud container alongside your profile — they are not sent to our servers or shared with third parties. You can revoke location access at any time in the Settings app.

Your profile. You can set up a profile by signing in with Apple or by entering your name as a guest. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive a name, email address, and a user identifier as provided by Apple. Apple lets you hide your real email with a private relay address. If you sign in as a guest, you enter your name directly. In both cases, your profile — name, email if provided, and any saved location — is stored in your private iCloud container and syncs across your devices.

App preferences. Your fasting schedule, reminder settings, app theme, and other preferences are stored in your private iCloud container so they restore on a new device. A small number of flags — such as whether onboarding has been completed — are stored locally on your device.

Notifications. The app can send local notifications to remind you when to start or end a fast. These are scheduled entirely on your device; no notification content leaves it.

Analytics

To understand which features are used and to improve the app, Hold Fast uses TelemetryDeck (TelemetryDeck GmbH), a privacy-focused analytics service. The app sends anonymized product-interaction events — for example: app opened, onboarding completed, paywall shown, trial started, purchase succeeded, and fast started, completed, or skipped. These signals contain no names, email addresses, precise locations, or advertising identifiers (no IDFA). They are not linked to your identity and are not used to track you across apps or websites. TelemetryDeck anonymizes data before storage; you can read its privacy policy at telemetrydeck.com/privacy.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not use advertising SDKs, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. The only non-Apple service the app talks to is the anonymized analytics described above.

External links

The app's learning section contains links to third-party websites. When you tap a link, it opens in your browser. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices.

Data sharing

We do not share your personal data with third parties, except for: the infrastructure provided by Apple (iCloud/CloudKit, Sign in with Apple, StoreKit), which operates under Apple's own privacy terms and stays within your account; and TelemetryDeck, which processes the anonymized analytics events described above on our behalf and cannot identify you from them.

Data retention and deletion

Your data remains until you delete it. The app includes a "Delete All Data" option that wipes your fasting history from the device and your iCloud container. You can also export your full history to CSV at any time.

Age

Hold Fast is rated 12+ on the App Store and is intended for users aged 16 and older. Intermittent fasting is not appropriate for children or most teenagers and should only be undertaken with guidance from a healthcare provider. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will revise the date above and reflect the changes in the app.
